Canada Eyes To Greet Over 4,00,000 Newcomers Per Year

Wow!! This announcement from the Canadian government definitely seems like a comforting one. The Immigration Levels Plan for 2021-2023 have added a touch of “silver lining” to the dreams of immigrants willing to migrate to Canada. Canada is all set to welcome over 4,01,000 immigrants in 2021, another 4,11,000 more in 2022 and 4,21,000 in 2023.This news created a happy base for all the newcomers to take a faithful plunge towards their land of dreams and opportunities. The fact of greeting over 4,00,000 newcomers in a year was only witnessed in 1913. This is undoubtedly the highest level of immigration in the history of Canada.

WHAT DO THE IMMIGRATION LEVELS PLAN FOR 2021-2023 SAY?:

The Immigration Levels Plan for 2021-2023 intend to focus on welcoming approximately 60 percent of the immigrants under economic class programs that also includes immigration through Express Entry system and Provincial Nominee Program. Outlining the specifications and rules pertaining to welcoming the number of new entrants in the coming years, their separate individual admission categories and the concerned grounds for admission are given in the Immigration Levels Plan.

Let’s have a snap shot of the 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan through this following table:

Due to the havoc wrecked by COVID-19 pandemic, Canada was forced to shut down its borders in 2020. This resulted in shortfall of approximately 3,41,000 immigration target set for this year. Despite consistent efforts of holding Express Entry draws and Provincial Nominee draws to cover up for the shortfall, during this pandemic, this target could not be achieved. This compelled the Canadian government to design its most ambitious Immigration Levels Plan in the history of Canada.

NEED TO MAINTAIN HIGH IMMIGRATION IN CANADA:

The aging population and the existence of low birth rate are the two most worrisome challenges that Canada needs to face. Approximately, 18% of the Canadian population is above the age of 65 years. The lowest birth rates of 1.47 per woman is also present in Canada. As a result, the economic growth will suffer and the surge in the government spending will continue to grow resulting in negative economic and fiscal impacts on the economy. The only solution to this issue is in increasing the labor force by welcoming skilled immigrants thereby facilitating economic growth. At the same time increasing labor force helps in preparing for replacing the shortage of labor that may arise in future due to aging population.

COVID-19 AND CANADIAN IMMIGRATION:

The year 2020 has witnessed a significant drop in the number of newcomers entering into Canada. While the growth of admission targets remains unchanged the approvals for permanent residence, suffered a great deal. The main reason for this drop was the inability of people to travel despite approved permanent residence before the expiry of immigration documents due to corona-virus related travel restrictions and related disruptions.

Canada is known as a country for immigrants and the scenario remains the same even during this pandemic. Constant public support for immigration has branded it to be a multicultural, immigration friendly and a better country to live in.

CONCLUSION:

This pandemic of COVID-19 has fastened its clutches across the globe. Hope is something that is helping the mankind to strive hard to live and lead a better life. Canada surely, is not an exception as many of us wish to migrate to Canada as much as Canada needs immigrants and labor force to continue and facilitate its economic growth. This is the probable reason why Canadian government decided to welcome over 4,00,000 immigrants per year. So, let us welcome this new Immigration Levels Plan 2021-2023 with an open heart.
